Thompson Gazelle

Thompson Gazzelle

The Thomson’s gazelle is an easily recognized member of the antelope family. They are a small animal with full-grown males not usually getting much bigger than 80 pounds. They are also very fast creatures that prefer living in very open terrain. They can run in short bursts at up to 60 miles per hour and sustain a speed of 30 miles per hour for long distances.

Spot and stalk is the preferred method of hunting Thomson’s gazelle. Shots will typically be between 100 and 300 yards. The minimum rifle requirement in Tanzania is 7mm and a fast cartridge is ideal.

The Thomson’s gazelle is a true symbol of old-style African safari hunting and is a great animal to add to any hunt.
